Spotlight on Strawberries

This week has been VERY crazy here in LA-LA land.

I just got back from Camp Blogaway, filled with ideas about how to move my blog forward and armed with the conviction that I was going to LET GO of posting 5 times a week in order to free up time to do some fun stuff {stay tuned}. I came home ready to work, ready to write, and ready to connect.

And then Sabrina was sent home with a 102 degree fever.

And Zoe asked for my apple pie for her birthday dinner and both red velvet AND dirt cupcakes for her birthday party {another stay-tuned}.

Oh, and my in laws are coming in town and I need to grab fat-free half and half and Bud Light and a Hershey’s Dark Special bar {sometimes its the little things that make people feel at home … I like to call them creature comforts}.

And Sabrina is still sick.

And the entertainer for said birthday party went MIA and I had to find an alternative at the last minute!

Oh, and then Sabrina was home from school NOT SICK – which, somtimes is even harder than a sick kid.

So you can understand why I forgot to pick up that blasted CSA box from Sabrina’s school {she was out sick after all}.

And of course, because it’s been that kind of week, Sabrina threw a fit when I didn’t have strawberries. You know, the three pints that we’ve been getting every week for our CSA box. Oh, the irony.

So, please forgive me for using stock photography and linking to other people’s recipes.  The creativity is flowing, but the execution is lacking.  At least it’s lacking this week.  Next week, hopefully things will have calmed down a bit – the kids will be healthy – and the party will be far enough behind me that I will have an hour or so to photograph, edit and post those delicious recipes that are floating around in my head.

Until then – and inspired by Sabrina’s fit – here are some delicious sounding strawberry recipes.

delicious, juicy strawberries ... get inspired!

Spotlight on Strawberries:

Just because I don’t have a recipe, doesn’t mean that there’s not an opportunity to get kids involved!!

  • Kids love sweet fruit, so incorporating things like strawberries into salads, muffins or other savory items is a great way to get kids to try new types of foods
  • Have kids browse recipes WITH you … if they have a say in what’s for dinner, they are more likely to try it
  • Kids can twist (or cut) off the tops of strawberries and older kids can slice strawberries
  • If you’re near a farm … try going berry picking!  It’s a great way to get kids to understand where food comes from in a unique and fun way

  1. Oh, I can relate to this! I had a kid home sick one week before I had a funeral to attend (out of town for the weekend). Then I return to have the other 2 kids home sick for the week, right before I attended Camp Blogaway! I was happy to find that this past week, everyone went to school! Woohoo! And yes, 5xs a week is nuts. Most people do 2xs/week (including myself) and find it much more manageable, for you as the writer, and for us as the reader!

  2. Laura, my attempt to cut back didn’t last long… I’ll try again next week, but I found my stats dropped too significantly. Ugggg. Th good new is that everyone is healthy (knock on wood) and were all set for the par on Saturday. TGIF (almost)
